Should I DIY my hypnobirthing?

Today I want to answer a question that was sent in from one of the fans of the page asking me if it was cool to DIY their hypnobirthing experience.  This is a really interesting one for me because I’m going to be really honest that I never had a hypnobirthing class.

I bought a book and I did my practice and I rocked two amazing hypnobirths before I went through my own program, The Calm Birth School, for Aluna.

You would think that I would feel very, very comfortable saying, “You can DIY.”  Look, here’s the deal.  Some women can read a book and enjoy really amazing birth experiences and some women can’t or some women don’t.

Here is more about it.

I think my issue mainly and the reason why I would always say, try and get some support, and it is definitely the reason that I set the original Calm Birth School in the way that I did, so that people would have ongoing support from myself, is because a book can only give you so much information.

While in The Calm Birth School, I really attempt to talk people through every eventuality.  The reality is that when you have somebody like myself or one of The Calm Birth School instructors in the UK talking you through some of the births that didn’t go as planned but where people were still able to apply the hypnobirthing techniques, it makes a massive difference.

When you have a platform to really express your fears in a very safe environment, where you have somebody who can coach you through them,

it can really help you get to the root and release what it is that is keeping you stuck or keeping you in that place of fear.

The other thing is the

community of like-minded women who are also looking to create calm and positive birth experiences

where there’s no judgement, where there’s no pressure to do it in any certain way, but you are just really looking to tune into your own birthing instincts and create the best experience possible.

And you’re allowed to talk about that desire in a way that feels good to you.

They’re just really powerful elements that I don’t think are as easy to obtain when you’re just reading a book on your own.

For those reasons, whilst I will say it’s really possible to create a positive hypnobirthing experience by just reading a book, having support, online or in person, is always going to trump that.

That’s my recommendation for you.

If there is a part of you wondering what the benefit are, if you can just get the book, it’s those things:

 – having someone to talk through your fears

 – having a really, really great community

 – having somebody to really talk you through specific examples of clients that they’ve worked with

 – women like you that they’ve worked with when things haven’t gone to plan

 – hypnobirthing techniques in those various different scenarios

That’s where the gold is.
