Happiness is this: Our gorgeous little Helena Rose was born last Wednesday at 4.26am at home 🙂 After a few days of lots of braxton hicks I had been experiencing mild contractions 10-30 mins apart all day, at 1.00am they became stronger and closer together – I was listening to my birth rehearsal mp3 s 🙂 I called the midwives and as they were en route my partner and sister started to inflate and prepare the pool. I got in the bath and labour progressed very quickly.
I listened to my MP3 throughout and it helped enormously. It took a while to fill the pool and I was starting to push so all hands were on deck with pans on the hob and kettles as we have an annoying immersion heater!! I got in the pool at around 3.30 and at 4.26 she was born. It was amazing to be in the water with her (I hadn’t managed a water birth with my first baby) she was very calm and fed straight away.
It was also really lovely to be at home, my son was asleep he woke up at the crucial point but quickly went back to sleep – even our dog was there licking my hand and it was fab to be able to go straight to bed and snuggle with Helena. She is totally lush. I am so pleased I did the hypnobirthing course it was tremendously empowering, thank you Suzy Ashworth.
