My Quick, Drug Free Home Birth!

What a beautiful home birth story of gorgeous little Hollie:

“This is my gorgeous baby girl Hollie Sam Hepburn. Born 2 weeks early on 17.12.15 at 38+2 weighing 7lbs 8oz.

This is my birth story…

After leaking a lot of fluid on the Wednesday, I woke up at 7am on the Thursday morning with some light cramping. Not sure if this was surges as they were quite irregular, I got my son up for school and carried on as normal. By 10am I was sure I was in labour so I contacted my midwife who said she would be out in a few hours to check on me.

My surges were manageable, and my husband and I continued to breath through them like I had learned with TCBS videos. At 12.30 pm my midwife arrived and checked me to find I was 2cm, so she stayed for an hour to see how I would progress. The surges were getting stronger and sometimes making me feel nauseous, so after an hour she advised on a warm bath to help take the edge of them. By this point I was 3cm, and midwife was leaving me to relax in bath with essential oils with us both assuming it would be a while before things progressed further.

After 10 minutes in the bath, we had to call midwife back. I was having the urge to push and I was confused and worried as I thought I was still only 3-4cm. But I had faith in my body and it certainly knew what it needed to do. My husband and my friend convinced me to get out the bath and onto my bed. Hubby could see baby’s head now and was worried he was going to have to deliver her on his own as things were happening so fast, and the midwife hadn’t made it back yet.

Thankfully she arrived in time to set up and deliver baby. Throughout it all, I kept remembering the affirmations, breathing techniques and remaining calm, and I believe this allowed me to birth my baby at home beautifully with not tearing, pain relief or panic. Although I didn’t get to use my birth tub as planned, I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful experience. Hollie was calm, alert and perfect when she arrived at 3.43pm.

I feel truly blessed to have managed a straight forward quick, drug free home birth and a large part is down to the tools I learned with TCBS. Thank you so much guys”.
