Thank you Laura for sharing your wonderful birth story with us and congratulations on baby Maxwell:)
“Hi everyone, here’s our birth story. It wasn’t quite the birth preferences we had hoped for, but Maxwell was born the 24th June, 4 days after our guess date, healthy and happy.
We planned for a water home birth with the NHS in east London but sadly things didn’t quite turn out as planned. My waters went during a huge thunderstorm, and surges started straightaway.
After 24 hours of surges at home with lots of bouncing on my ball and light touch massage, things weren’t progressing as quickly as the midwife hoped. My partner negotiated with midwife and we stayed at home for a further four hours. Due to risk of infection they wanted us to go to hospital and after 28 hours I was beginning to get tired so was happy to go with their advice.
I had a bit of fear associated with going to hospital and a journey whilst in labour, but I can honestly say the hypnobirthing techniques kept us both really calm throughout.
When we arrived at hospital, once we were settled, Stuart set about making the room really nice, with lights, music and aromatherapy oils. I had to go on the hormone drip and Maxwell was delivered by forceps which prior to doing the course was pretty much my worst nightmare, but we were both so calm.
Maxwell arrived and has been so relaxed and contented from the start. I find it hard to believe I’m saying this, but we both really enjoyed the experience.
I had my placenta made into pills, and while I don’t know how I would have been without taking them, I had no signs of depression and stopped bleeding after two weeks.
Thank you Suzy.”
