“Jakub Saxon Washko. Born 28th December at 4:30am, two weeks ahead of guess date. Weighing a hardy 7lbs 11oz, at 19in.
Our home birth started at around midnight with losing of mucus plug and breaking waters an hour later. I had an amazing support team and couldn’t have asked for anything better. I worked hard for 27 hours, breathing and focusing through each surge. The whole time I had the relaxation and affirmations mp3s playing, which were my saving grace.
Unfortunately I got stuck in transition at 9cm for almost 5 hours. Then my surges backed off to 1 every 10min, and were less intense. The doula and midwife worked non-stop to try and get them going again with no avail. In the end the health of my baby was most important. Combined with the mental and physical fatigue I requested a transfer to a hospital.
The on call OB tried to help and set me up with some pitocin and gave me an hour. He was also concerned with the length of time since my waters broke. After an hour of some pretty intense surges I was convinced that perhaps we had accomplished the changes necessary to complete my natural birth. I was wrong. Still no changes and baby was coming down with his head tilted to one side. I agreed to surgery and got to meet my baby 15min later.
I am so grateful to the CBS for all of my found confidence and positivity throughout all of this. In the end I do not regret one moment or decision and now (like the mp3 says) I am a calm and confident mother. I can’t even express how over the moon I am right now. We are getting discharged this morning and I can’t wait to get him home.
