“Another midwife kept popping in just to watch. She said we made her evening!”

This week’s story comes from Amy Sant-Williams, who attended a course with Liz Stanford (TCBS Manager & Trainer).

“Our lovely little Jack is here! And he is absolutely adorable. It was an amazing and quick hypnobirth. It couldn’t have been more perfect.

I decided to have a sweep as I was 10 days past my estimated due date. The next morning at 11am I started getting surges. They weren’t intense or regular, so my partner Lee and I got on with our day, having fun with our little girl.

By 3pm the surges had stopped, so I was sure it was a false alarm, but we decided Susie should sleep at my mum’s, just in case things ramped up during the night.

By 6pm the surges were back and they were intense and regular. I was definitely in labour! The surge breathing worked a treat: all that practise had paid off.

I had a big bowl of pasta for energy – I was going to need it if the birth was to be as long as Susie’s (little did I know Jack was going to be here in 4 hours!) – then went for a short walk.

By 8:30pm we were in the car on the way to the Birth Centre. I had surges every few steps leading from the car to the Birth Centre door and when they checked me I was 5cms dilated. We were staying!

We got into the beautiful birth suite and the midwife ran the pool. At 10pm I was in the pool having the most intense surges I’d ever felt and I started to bear down. I used my birth breathing so well (something that I didn’t practice properly with Susie’s birth). Lee was my rock. He whispered words of encouragement to me the whole time.

At 10:51pm Jack swam into the world still in his sack. When Lee received him the sack popped and he was placed into my arms. What an amazing experience!

We aced it! The midwife said it was such a beautiful birth, and another midwife kept popping in just to watch. She said we made her evening!

Hypnobirthing is brilliant. I want to do it again (but won’t as two kids are enough!).

Thank you so much Liz and The Calm Birth School!”
