We have had some wonderful birth stories come in over the Christmas period. We were so thrilled to hear Julie finally went into labour 23 days late.
As a lot of people know, I mean I banged on about it on here enough…Jessie was 23 days late and it was so hard declining induction and planned c sections and pressure from consultants, I almost cracked up but then on Monday 15th December I finally went into labour spontaneously and when she was good and ready. I laboured at home with my husband and doula for quite some time, my contractions built up nicely until we were joined by two midwives, this went on for some time, Tuesday rolled round, I was still in labour…the only way I can describe my labour is strength and power, the surges were so powerful they took some concentration and the affirmation that vaguely helped was ‘my surges can not be stronger than me as they are me’ at one point it seemed I was channelling He-Man as I shouted ‘power’ ‘I have the power’ (so my husband tells me, I don’t remember) they were pretty tough to deal with but I dealt with each one with my husband by my side.
After some time I decided I wanted a VE so my midwife examined me and it didn’t hurt one bit not like in my first labour, I was fully effaced and 5 cms dilated, I was so happy as with Henry I only managed to get to 1cm! so on it went, 5 more hours went by but it seemed that I was to stay at 5cms…Decisions needed to be made so I calmly made them…I decided that I wanted to transfer to hospital as I would like an epidural, I had been in active labour for a very long time and I was tired, it had become too much, so off we went to hospital. Epidural in place, a few more hours went by and I was still at 5cms, they wanted to break my waters but my strong instinct told me that this would speed up Jessie’s heart beat so I decided on a c section as it had been some time now. Everything went well with the section but Jessie had meconium inside me so it turned out my instinct had been correct…she needed to come out as she was just starting to get distressed! It wasn’t the birth I had hoped for by a long, long way…but goodness me she is worth it, I am in love with this podgy girl who weighed a whopping 9lb 6oz!
Thank you so much to Suzy Ashworth for all the support when I was so overdue and to everyone on here for being so supportive and lovely!!! The Calm Birth School certainly made me more positive throughout a very difficult pregnancy and gave me the strength and power to get through some tough moments in my labour and birth.
No matter what happens in your labour and birth, trust your instincts and go with them, you will do it, women are bloody amazing!!! Thank you xx
