It was like the baby had kicked through the amniotic sac

This week’s birth story comes from a lovely couple Sarah and Arnie who attended a TCBS Hypnobirthing course with Joanne White of Love Parenthood in Peterborough.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful story with is!

Ellie was born a week early.

My Fiancée and I had just got to bed when we both heard a pop. It was like the baby had kicked through the amniotic sac and I felt it in my back. I ran to the toilet to see that my waters had been released. I was actually then quite poorly with sickness, but I knew from the hypnobirthing that this was my body’s way of preparing for what was about to happen and making way for the baby and a better birth. That’s when the waves started, and I knew it wouldn’t be long before I met my baby. I managed the ever-increasing waves using a tens machine and breathing until the hospital gave us the all clear to go in. The car journey was as quick as it could be, and I knew the baby was ready to come – I just prayed that we got there in time! I knew my family history and my body and knew that the birth would be quick.

At hospital I had to work hard to control my breathing and calm down from the journey. I got myself comfortable on the beanbags. With each wave my partner used the tens machine to give some support and relief as I practiced my breathing now supported by the gas and air. The waves got stronger and I was ready to push. By listening to my body, I used each contraction to push. I knew that baby was coming and gave the last few pushes as baby came out.

As the midwife passed baby to us my partner told me we had a little girl. She was laid onto my chest and I couldn’t believe that we had done it – our baby was finally here and that felt magical. The waves continued for some time after the afterbirth had passed and with them came the overwhelming feelings of love for our tiny daughter.

I honestly believe that it’s only been Jo’s hypnobirthing support that allowed me to have the calm natural birth that I had always wanted. And for that I will be forever thankful.

P.S. I Forgot to say about how listening to the MP3s helped to remain calm as I’d practiced each week. They also helped give me to focus on while I received treatment immediately after the birth.
