Does HypnoBirthing work in birth centers and hospitals?

This week I am doing a little bit of myth-busting.  I saw in one of the hypnobirthing groups I’m a member of somebody asking the age old question, is hypnobirthing only good for home births or does it work in birth centres and hospitals too.

Here is my answer.

This question drives me crazy because whilst, of course, if you’re having a home birth, hypnobirthing is one of the most powerful and useful things that you can do to prepare, hypnobirthing, when taught in the way that we teach at The Calm Birth School is not about where you birth.  It’s not about who is with you.  Your care team, of course, they’re important.  Your birth partner is, of course, important, but really, it’s not about any of that.

It’s not about how your baby enters into the world, it’s about how you feel when you’re birthing, how calm you feel, how confident you feel, how able you are to make potentially difficult decisions, that may come up in challenging circumstances, feeling really confident about being able to navigate your way along that path, knowing that you’re able to make the right decisions for you and your family on the day that you go into labour.  That is what hypnobirthing is all about.

I think the moment we’re able to move passed ‘can I have a pain-free birth, will I be able to have a birth without any drugs’, and focus on creating an incredibly positive birthing experience, that is when you know that you have nailed your hypnobirthing.  It’s a state of mind.  It’s how a woman feels during her birth, it’s how she feels after her birth.

The tools and techniques that you can learn in the online course or with The Calm Birth School are there to help you regardless of where, how, and when you go into labour.  Let me take that and give you that gift today, and if you’re interested in finding out more about The Calm Birth School, please look at https://www.thecalmbirthschool.com/freehypnobirthing-2016  and you’ll get three free videos sent directly to your inbox.
