Biography

Hello! My name is Steph, and I’m a hypnobirthing teacher and doula, based in West Yorkshire. I live with my partner and our Springador, Pippa.

My path to hypnobirthing was unexpected! I’ve always been really passionate about well-being, and I studied psychology before getting a job in research. Over the past few years, I’ve been working with mums, trying to understand more about their experiences, and that’s when I began to realise that women don’t always have the support and information they need when they’re making decisions about their pregnancies and birth. Understandably, this quite often means that their experience is less-than-positive. I’ve always loved learning (I’m a true geek at heart!), so I decided to find out more about pregnancy and birth, and I started to realise that birth didn’t have to be the negative, anxiety-provoking event that we often hear about.  I was lucky to have the opportunity to do my doula training, and I started learning more about how to support woman during their pregnancy, birth and recovery.

And then I came across hypnobirthing, and the Calm Birth School. I love their completely inclusive, realistic, and practical approach to preparing for birth, and I just had to be a part of it… It seemed like a perfect combination of all the things I’m passionate about; well-being, education, and mums!

My favourite quote is “birth should be your greatest achievement, not your greatest fear”, and I really believe that with the right tools, education, and support, it can be!
