Suddenly, with the next contraction, ‘it’s coming!’ – within a few seconds there HE was

This week’s birth story comes from a lovely couple who attended a TCBS 1:2:1 Intensive Hypnobirthing Course with Jenie Scholes of Empowered Bumps Hypnobirthing covering Merseyside, North Cheshire and South Lancashire.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful story with is!

“The lovely Jenie came round to our house for a 1-2-1 session while our other kids were at nursery and school. We’ve gone through the birth process twice, induced early both times for Cholestasis. Even though we have had two previous babies, the births ended with epidurals, assistance and lots of people in the room. This time I wanted to be in control, to understand all my options and for my birth partner to feel he has an important job when I am unable to communicate clearly to others my wants.

Our 3rd birth journey started with Rosemary helping me create our little affirmation board – this made me smile more in labour than I thought it would.

Sunday we started with a sweep (for me the worst part but necessary to get things moving) and the gel for 6 hours – I was getting mild contractions and was able to smile my way through them, listening to my upbeat playlist. When they became a little stronger I went for the longest, deepest bath I’ve ever had – it was wonderful! By the end of the 6 hours we had dilated to 3 cm with quite a bit of pressure, however, the cervix was still facing the back – ‘no problem’ I thought, ‘baby will arrive when it is ready’.

We were moved up to delivery suite – I felt a little sadness that we weren’t able to go to the birth centre with the pools and lights but as soon as I got into my room I did as Jenie suggested and jazzed it up; affirmation board, twinkly lights (totally borrowed from my Baby Sensory kit) and popped some relaxing music on. Our waters were broken and things moved very quickly. Back-to-back contractions with little rest in-between. About 25 minutes in I asked for gas and air. I then ask for Pethidine and change my mind to the epidural. The midwife tells me she’s running the bath in another room for me and it should be ready in 15 minutes, so, I can either start to make my way over to the other room and get in the bath OR I can wait approximately 30 mins for the epidural and even then I might not be able to have it depending on how far I have progressed. Suddenly, with the next contraction, ‘it’s coming!’ – within a few seconds there HE was.

Never mind the bath or epidural – this baby had it’s own plan and although things moved very quickly I felt in control, and kept telling myself I can do this. I can’t believe i’m saying this and the stitches haven’t even healed yet, but… I would do it again. What a completely different experience from my other labours.

Thank you Jenie for making my 3rd birth so much more positive and enjoyable”.
