Let’s Kill Us Vs Them!

Today’s blog is all about removing the idea of Us and Them.  Whether we are talking about birth or motherhood, there is some kind of movement or negativity in mainstream media that pits mothers against each other, but in our community at The Calm Birth School, it is never about us and them.

It is never about ‘I’ve had a natural birth and, therefore, my birth is better than your birth experience because you had some kind of intervention.’ Never will you hear me say ‘it’s a shame that you had to have a caesarean-section.’  This is birth shaming.  If you have experienced that, I’m really interested to hear what was said to you and how it made you feel.

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter how your baby comes into this world.

You are a mother who’s given birth.  There is a huge issue with the over-medicalisation of birth and what we look to do at The Calm Birth School is inform and empower you to make the decisions that are right for you and your baby.

Want to know what that means?  Here you go..

Now, what that means is sometimes you may choose to have intervention.  Sometimes you may choose to be induced.  Sometimes you may agree to have an elective caesarean.  Sometimes you may sit and hold back and wait and wait and wait for days and days and sometimes weeks … and you still might end up with some kind of intervention.

I just want you to know that when you are able to approach your birth, prepare for your birth, and then experience your birth from a place of power, really understanding what your choices are and what your options are, being able to communicate your wishes, being heard, being respected by your care providers, by your birthing partner and the rest of your team, it really, really doesn’t matter how your baby entered into the world.

You should still feel elated, proud, excited, and joyful, whether you have given birth by caesarean-section or at home in a pool.

So much of that is not just what happens on the day, but how you approach learning about the options that are available to you beforehand.

Come and join our party.

There is no Us and Them.

We don’t believe in birth shaming.  We are all one.  We are all warrior women.  We are all amazing birth goddesses, so get involved.  If you haven’t started your preparation yet, please visit here.  If you are already a student, post your questions and give support in the community.  We’re all in this together!
