bouncing on the birthing ball

This week’s birth story comes from a lovely couple Hollie and Robert who attended a TCBS Hypnobirthing Course with Charlotte Inkpin of Hypnobirthing with Charlotte, covering areas across Braintree Essex.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful story with us!

“It was absolutely incredible from start to finish. I can’t thank you enough for all your teaching. Michael was the best birthing partner; he took on board everything you taught us.

My surges began at around 6:30am this morning, I sent Michael to work and got myself into the bath (Lara quickly joined me at 7:30am)

I called Michael home at 8:40am and got myself out of the bath and made my way downstairs to the ball. I was controlling the discomfort with the deep breathing techniques (all whilst my mum mopped the floors and my dad began filling the pool) I then promptly vomited on the clean floor…oops.

At 9:26am we called the midwife, my mum had to speak as I was now beginning to moo?

Michael got home whilst the midwife was on the phone. He sprang into action and was incredible, constant massages and counting and breathing with me to keep me calm. The midwife arrived at around 10:20am to find Michael and I in the bathroom bouncing on the birthing ball.

I was examined at 10:45 and was around 3cm but making good progress.

At 11:15am I got into the pool and labour progressed quickly by 11:30am the second midwife was called ( who happened to be my best friend from university- such a special moment) she arrived at around 11:45am. Although things felt like they were getting tough Michael and my mum continued to refocus me and quickly reminded me of the breathing techniques and to listen to the hypnobirthing music. At around 12:05pm my waters burst into the pool and released a lot of pressure. By this point I felt the urge to bare down, again Michael controlled my breathing telling me to remain calm and push down, all whilst massaging my shoulders and reminding me how amazing he thought I was and how much he loved me.

At 12:22pm Hallie Charlotte Jennifer Miller made her arrival into the pool weighing 7lbs 11oz (almost 2lbs bigger than Lara). We had delayed cord clamping and my mum cut the cord. My mother-in-law and dad came into the room to meet their new granddaughter.

I managed to birth our beautiful baby girl without any need for pain relief, delayed cord clamping and natural placenta delivery. I didn’t have any stitches either. I put this all down to the hypnobirthing techniques we were taught and feel utterly blessed to get our magical home water birth in the middle of lockdown during the pandemic.  Lara is an amazing big sister and can’t get enough of her xxxx
